Master Instructor STACEY GRIFFITH made a New Year's resolution to read more and she's sticking to it! Stacey discusses what she read over break and what she plans to read in 2010.
I admit it, I don't read as much as I should. But it's never too late to improve and I wanted to start 2010 with reading being my top priority. Over the holiday break I had time to read, but I also made time to read. Like exercise, reading is a choice and you have to incorporate it into your daily routine. Luckily, I have a lot of books that I'm eager to get to. Here are just a few.

In Healthy at 100, John Robbins looks at four different cultures where the elderly live long, happy and healthy lives. By using these groups as examples, Robbins reflects on how we can improve our own lives, at every stage.
* Erika and Tracy get huge shout outs for giving me a basket of books to read, including this one :)

The Help is about a young white woman in Mississippi who writes about the struggle of black maids. It's a New York Times bestseller and, from what I hear, you fall in love with the characters and can't put it down.

Nurture Shock takes several ideas about kids that we assume are true -- that it's good to give children praise, that it's good for children to have siblings, that kids should be enrolled in gifted programs -- and uses science to turn these notions on their head. This is the kind of book that can change the way you think!

The Art of Happiness is based on four principles:
1.
The purpose of life is happiness. |
2.
Happiness is determined more by the state of one’s mind than by one’s external conditions, circumstances, or events—at least once one’s basic survival needs are met. |
3.
Happiness can be achieved through the systematic training of our hearts and minds, through reshaping our attitudes and outlook. |
4.
The key to happiness is in our own hands. |
By expanding on these principles, the book investigates human happiness and how to achieve it. Who couldn't use some tips on how to be happy?

I read Sarah's Key over break and it was amazing. Very very emotional and deep. If you are at all interested in the pockets of the holocaust that are somewhat untouched this one is enlightening.
So that's the list for now, but recommendations are welcome!
